Both services rely on a web browser extension to automatically pay participating websites and creators from customers’ 5 USD/monthly subscription funds.

Read more …
urn:uuid:1fad484b-885b-4323-813e-bf4d92821b47 2019-02-01T08:34:00Z 2021-12-23T16:20:00Z Chrome is right to remove the webRequest extension API Chrome is right to remove the
webRequest
extension API As an extension developer, I support Google’s controversial decision to remove of a slow and over-powered extension API favored by ad-blocking extensions.
…but the proposed
declarativeNetRequest
API isn’t a good replacement. It’s too limited compared to its too powerful predecessor. So, where does that leave the Chromium browser extensions ecosystem?

Read more …
urn:uuid:005d7589-37ba-4889-bf88-9386488e413a 2018-09-28T11:26:00Z 2018-09-28T11:26:00Z New browser extension lets you opt-out of Google AMP A new browser extension for Firefox and Chrome that gives people the choice to opt-out of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) in favor of the open web.
The decentralized nature of the web, as it is, is under serious threat from initiatives like the Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) project spearheaded by Google. Search engines are becoming content repositories for large sections of the web. Many major web publishers have already ceded control over their own websites and handed over a treasure trove of data about their audiences to Bing and Google.

Read more …
urn:uuid:e8388f68-d8c3-442c-a424-0c477b9d4ef9 2018-08-30T13:41:00Z 2018-08-30T13:41:00Z Extension enhances privacy of all embedded YouTube videos Ensure better privacy for YouTube videos embedded around the web with this new Firefox browser extension.
Get better privacy for embedded YouTube videos with the Privacy Enhanced Mode for Embedded YouTube Videos extension for Firefox.

Read more …
urn:uuid:2f42e38d-716b-44c1-a49f-259c5f37591f 2018-08-19T22:43:00Z 2020-08-27T04:44:00Z Work-around extension popout-tab refusing to close on Firefox Android window.close() closes a Firefox WebExtension pop-out window on desktop. That doesn’t work on Firefox for Android, causing many extensions to misbehave.
How do you close an web extension popout-window (the small window that appears when you click on an extension’s toolbar button?) On the desktop, all you need is a simple
window.close()
. Because of the limited available screen space Firefox on Android have popout-tabs instead of popout-windows. Users can dismiss these tabs by pressing the back button, closing them manually, or switching to another tab. However, they’re deceptively difficult to close pragmatically.

Read more …
