Where are the managed IP-anycast VPS service providers?
VPS service providers have data centers located all over the world. You need managed anycast IP-addresses to direct users to the nearest VPS location.

There’s a reasonably competitive market for Virtual Private Servers (VPS) where companies compete on offering cheap VPSes in data centers located all over the world. However, having a server close to the end-user won’t do you any good unless you also have an efficient way to route customers to the nearest data center.

Scaleway seems too good to be true
The French VPS provider Scaleway doesn’t deliver promised features like IPv6, reverse DNS, or Linux distribution availability.

The French virtual private server (VPS) provider Scaleway looks damned impressive offering four dedicated ARM processor cores and 2 GB of RAM for 3 Euro per month. They’ve got some of the lowest prices and offer the most hardware for your money. Their website looks beautiful and it has all the information you could want. Unfortunately, I found that the advertised information doesn’t match the products on offer.

Moved to Hetzner VPS: Shorter legal docs as a competitive advantage
Linode required me to agree to updated Terms of Service with not enough time to review them. Hetzner’s full contract was shorter than Linode’s preamble.

Do you read the often lengthy legal agreements required by your Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting provider? I guess that many skip past these documents, but I read them. My now former VPS hosting provider, Linode, sent me a shedload of updated legal agreements at 23.00 on a Friday night before a long weekend with just six days to review the documents before they went into effect.

Linode and Vultr no longer disables SELinux in Fedora Server
Two popular VPS providers, Linode and Vultr, no longer modify their Fedora Linux distributions to disable the SELinux security feature by default.

The two virtual private server (VPS) hosting providers Linode and Vultr have been offering server instances of Fedora Server with Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) enforcement disabled by default. New instances deployed with Fedora Server 27 now enable SELinux in enforcing mode by default. This aligns them to the upstream Fedora defaults.

Linode DNS Manager pitfall: No TXT record normalization
Linode DNS Manager pitfall: No
TXT
record normalization
Be wary when entering DNS TXT records in the Linode DNS Manager. The web interface doesn’t properly normalize user input.

Linode includes DNS hosting services to customers at all price tiers. This lets you manage the domains for your VPS’ in the Linode Manager on the web and app. Linode’s distributed DNS services have great performance and a good track record when it comes to uptime and availability. The Linode DNS Manager, however, leaves some things to be desired. Input validation and normalization is one of those things.
